Change for the Positive
Big band music. Used to hate it. Peas. Hated those, too.
Now? I like big band music. Peas? No problem! So why is it that tastes change, preferences change and people change, yet we are expected to stay the same in our relationships. Change is a fact of life, yes? So tell me why is it when a friend says,” you have changed!” that it comes as a surprise to them? Better yet, if everyone and everything is always changing why do we struggle to keep it the same? A change in pace - life changes - change the world –time change - yet we don’t really expect people to feel the need to change. When they do, we feel offended… left behind… out of the loop. But what if we changed WITH those around us? Instead of complaining about how someone has moved to another area, why don’t we do the same? New job? Check it out! New boyfriend? Why not? New car? Congrats! New baby? Awesome! Yet, what I hear all around me is New job? Lucky jerk. New boyfriend? That won’t last. New car? Yeah, until it devalues when you drive it off the lot. New baby? You will be broke.
Maybe the better question at this point is when change happens, why can’t people be supportive? Why do they always have to shoot down change and new things? Always think the worst? Maybe I will just leave you with this… next time some big change happens… observe how you react. Do you need to change it? Is it already positive? I wanna know…
